An Oxfordshire school has confirmed a pupil had tested positive for swine flu.
In a letter to parents, Wood Green School, in Witney, announced the school would not be closing as the pupil did not attend school while ill.
Headteacher Cynthia Savage's letter reads: “I am writing to let you know that we learned today that a pupil at the school has tested positive for the influenza A(H1N1) virus. You will, naturally, be concerned.
“Health experts from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) have advised us that as the pupil did not attend school whilst ill, and is being treated at home, no further action is necessary at the school itself and there is no danger of wider infection within the school.
“There is no suggestion of any of our other pupils, or the staff, being infected.
"We have been advised by the Local Authority and the HPA that the school should remain open as usual and that all pupils should attend as normal unless they have flu-like symptoms in which case they should stay at home and you should call the Swine Flu Information Line on 0800 1 513 513 for the latest advice and if, you are still concerned, NHS Direct on 0845 4647.”
Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust earlier today announced the total number of swine flu cases in the county as 14.
It is not yet known if the pupil is included in the figure.
