ONCE again our bus journeys to and from work are going to be delayed this summer through roadworks.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand that repairs to our roads need to be dealt with.

I regularly catch the number 5 bus from the railway station to Blackbird Leys after work.

Recently, I was at the bus stop at 5.05pm, in torrential rain, and I was still waiting for a bus at 5.45pm. Not one number 5 bus came to pick up passengers.

My friend, who was with me, called the Oxford Bus Company at approximately 5.25pm, to be told the delay was because of the roadworks. In the end my friend and I, and other passengers, decided to take a number 4 bus into Oxford then catch the number 5 bus from Queen Street – because we knew by then that the buses were being turned round at Castle Street with no thought whatsoever for the passengers waiting at the station.

As we got on the number 4 bus, the driver confirmed that they were turning the buses round at Castle Street.

But why didn’t an inspector come to let us know this, then we wouldn’t have wasted time waiting? Plenty of other buses went past us.

Also, why wasn’t my friend told this when he contacted the Oxford Bus Company?

The Oxford Bus Company has no excuse for not informing their passengers. This is just downright rude and smacks of a ‘couldn’t care less’ attitude.

This has happened many times over the years whenever there are roadworks in Oxford.
