CLOWNS, face-painting and an inflatable bungee run drew almost 1,000 people to an Oxford estate for a spectacular community celebration.
Even the sun made an appearance at the Barton Bash at Barton’s Neighbourhood Centre, in Underhill Circus, yesterday.
Children got stuck into everything from five-a-side football to tightrope walking, while adults enjoyed activities including manicures and dancing.
The fourth annual celebration replaced the estate’s annual carnival and proved a big hit this year.
Malyke Mason, seven, of Stowford Road, Barton, said: “There were lots of things you could do and I liked all of them.”
Performer James McDonald, 11, of Donnington, showcased his talents with the Messy Jam Dance Troupe. He said: “It’s a nice event because you can meet new friends and renew old friends.”
Singers Christ’s Love Assembly, led by Oladeola Olisawo, entertained the masses and other popular stalls included a pottery workshop, mosaic mirror making, Zumba keep-fit and hair braiding.
Eugenia Stevenson, president of Barton Community Association, said about 1,000 people attended the event. She said: “Barton’s a very close community and it’s getting closer and closer with events like this.”
