Two people have died after a plane and a glider crashed following a mid-air collision in Oxfordshire this afternoon.
Emergency crews are at the scene in Church Lane, Drayton, near Abingdon. Two people in a light aircraft have died, but the pilot of the glider parachuted to safety.
A spokesman for the Department for Transport said a military training plane and a glider were believed to have collided in mid-air.
Two ambulances, an ambulance car and the air ambulance all attended the scene after receiving the call at 2.17pm.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said officers were dealing with “a major incident” involving at least one aircraft but have yet to give further details.
A spokesman for RAF Benson would not confirm reports the training plane had come from the base.
