PUPILS at New Marston First School in Oxford spent a year learning about medieval history in 1983 – then turned the clock back to dress in period costume and enjoy a medieval banquet. The 60 knights and damsels tucked into fresh fruit and drank mead and ale, served by teachers Rita West-Green and Sheila Allan.

Children at the Oxford Opportunity playgroup had new toys presented to them in 1972, thanks to members of the Oxford and District Licensed Victuallers’ Association. The LVA women’s chairman, Peggy Cox, right, is seen as the youngsters tried out the toys.

A tree planting ceremony took place at St Michael’s School in Marston Road in 1972. Clifford Walton, 10, does the hard work, watched by Alderman Arthur Conners, left, and headmaster Wilfred Willis.
