Bosses at energy consultancy AEA Technology in Harwell say the election of US President Barack Obama has provided a major shot in the arm for the company.

President Obama has pledged to adopt a greener approach and AEA is set to benefit directly after last year buying Washington-based data management firm Project Performance Corporation, which has clients including the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy and the US Patent and Trademark Office.

In a statement AEA said: “President Obama’s plan to make the US economy much more energy efficient and to create jobs from technology developed to minimise the US’s impact on climate change creates a very exciting opportunity for the AEA Group.”

AEA revealed a pre-tax profit of £7.5m, down from £8m the previous year.
