Fernando Alonso will journey to the Dutch city of Rotterdam in August to demonstrate an Enstone-built Renault Formula One car during the annual Bavaria City Racing event. Alonso, whose team mate Nelson Piquet attended last year, will drive across the distinctive Willemsbrug bridge, along the main road of Coolsingel and through Hofplein square.
“My team mate Nelsinho Piquet, who drove twice in Rotterdam, told me some great stories about the event and the enthusiastic audience,” enthused the Spaniard. “I hope to entertain all the fans along the track with an impressive demonstration.”
In 2008, more than 500,000 spectators watched the action and Herman Vaanholt, from the Bavaria City Racing organisation, was overjoyed Alonso would be attending, especially as the event will celebrate its fifth birthday this year.
“Fernando is one of just three world champions still driving in Formula One,” he said. “So it is fantastic and unique that such race hero is part of the programme in our anniversary year.”
The action will get under way on Sunday, August 16.
