FOOTAGE showing fans clashing during a home game between Oxford United and Aston Villa in 2002 has been posted on video sharing website YouTube.
The five-minute video – recorded on the Kassam Stadium’s security cameras – shows a steward injured by a flying bottle before fans from both teams exchange blows thr-ough an internal door.
Posted on Monday, the video has already been watched hundreds of times.
Violence flares as Villa fans flooded the North Stand’s concourse and broke past a police cordon to smash through doors and attack United fans.
As police tried to restore order and quell the violence the footage shows fans from both clubs punching and hurling bottles Four Villa fans received three-year football banning orders following the trouble.
Chief Insp Phil Standish said: “Ultimately the content of YouTube is the responsibility of the website’s management. I would however seek to discourage the use of any footage which highlights or portrays any criminal activity including disorder at any football match.”
An Oxford United spokes-man said they were looking into whether they should ask YouTube to remove the footage.
