Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted distraction burglary at the home of an 88-year-old woman in Oxford.
The woman was waiting for a lift when she heard a knock at the door of her home in Wood Farm Road, Wood Farm, at about 7am yesterday.
Upon opening the door a man entered her home claiming to be from the Water Board and that there was a problem with her water.
He entered her kitchen and started playing around with her taps and helped himself to biscuits from a tin in her cupboard.
Her lift then arrived to collect her and called out to her from the door. At this point the man claiming to be from the Water Board quickly left the property, along with a second man who had entered the address without the woman’s knowledge.
Nothing is believed to have been taken at this time.
The first man is described as white, about 5ft 9in tall, in his mid-twenties, with a medium build and brown hair. He was wearing a navy-coloured, long-sleeved top.
The second man was also white, in his late twenties, about 5ft 7in tall and of stocky build. He was wearing a black or multi-coloured baseball cap.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
