Burglars stole a laptop, credit cards and jewellery after breaking into a bungalow in Abingdon - shortly after the householder was offered gardening services by a doorstep caller.
The offence took place in Whitecross, between 12.30pm and 4.05pm on Monday, after the house's front door was forced.
Pc Paul Reece said: "The bungalow is set back from the main road with a service road nearby which runs parallel to Whitecross.
"It is near to a bus stop and there would have been plenty of people around at the time who could have seen the burglars in the area.
“We have also had a report from the occupant that a man had come to the door previously asking if the householder had any gardening work that needed doing.
“I would like to ask anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area to contact the police.”
Anyone with information should call Pc Reece on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555555.
