Sir – I am writing in response to Colin Rosser’s letter regarding Oxford Brookes University’s development proposals (June 4), in which he refers to a report prepared by us for the University.
Pall Mall Consult is an independent communications consultancy. We were commissioned in September 2008 to work with Oxford Brookes on a pre-application consultation exercise for the University’s campus redevelopment programme.
Our report provided analysis of focus groups, stakeholder meetings with local residents and a questionnaire which was given to all attendees of the University’s redevelopment exhibition.
We received 369 completed questionnaires, and submitted our report to the University in December 2008.
Of the 369 questionnaire respondents, 70 per cent approved of the design quality.
Mr Rosser’s statement that there were 113 negative comments regarding the building features and only nine positive comments misrepresents our overall findings.
Some of those who chose to make additional comments, especially where they had concerns, commented on more than one aspect of the plans.
The 122 positive and negative comments, therefore, did not reflect the views of 122 separate individuals as was suggested by Mr Rosser. I trust this clarifies the position.
Graham Johnson, Chief executive, Pall Mall Consult
