Friday is my Granny duty day and I try to give my 15-month-old grandson a special treat in the afternoons.
Last week he spent a brilliant time at the Natural History Museum, gazing in awe at the dinosaurs, giggling at the bugs, stroking the stuffed animals and trying to get into every door marked no entry.
This was ruined when his silly Nana, while carrying him, lost her balance at the top of the steps as we were leaving.
Luckily he wasn’t hurt but I broke my wrist and had various cuts and bruises.
The reason for this letter is to publicly thank the staff at the museum, who were totally brilliant.
Apart from instant first aid, they took care of all the logistical things, like fetching my car and ringing my daughter and just generally being so kind and supportive.
The paramedics too deserve my thanks – calming a distraught, screaming child is no easy task – and they were all quietly professional, which gave me such reassurance.
The whole experience restored my faith in human nature.
A big thank-you to everyone involved.
