A blue plaque was unveiled in honour of Sir Isaiah Berlin, one of Oxford’s best-known philosophers and founding president of Wolfson College.
The plaque was unveiled at Headington House, in Old High Street, Headington, by the Oxfordshire Blue Plaque Board.
The Oxford University lecturer lived there for four decades until his death in 1997. He is buried in Wolvercote Cemetery.
The plaque was unveiled by Sir Isaiah's stepsons, Peter Halban and Michel Strauss.
This year is the centenary of Sir Isaiah’s birth, and Oxford University is staging a number of events to mark the anniversary, including the annual Isaiah Berlin lecture, a piano recital, and the opening of an exhibition, Images of Isaiah, which will run until June 17.
Wolfson College has also commissioned a booklet on Sir Isaiah’s years at the college, entitled Isaiah Berlin and Wolfson College The book comprises a compilation of quotations by Oxford academics, including Berlin himself.
