Early indications for tonight's European election results were that Labour was being pushed into fifth place in the south east region.
With about half of the region's votes counted, Labour was behind the Green Party.
The Conservatives were well in the lead, polling more than 450,000 votes, with the UK Independent Party in second place on 250,000.
The Liberal Democrats were third with 192,000 while the Green Party had picked up 144,000 votes.
Labour has 101,000 votes while the British National Party had just under 60,000.
However those results were not enough to give an indication yet what it would mean for the region's 10 seats.
Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan said: "We are winning by a decent margin."
