A WORKSHOP for handicapped people at Christ Church hall, Northcourt Road, was having a tough time in 1980 and facing closure. The group continued to produce plastic components for cars, but work had almost dried up, because of the economic slump.
The second picture dates from 1981 when ghoulies, ghosties and long-legged beasties invaded the town. It was a fundraising effort by Abingdon Rotaract to buy a £500 bed for the town hospital. Peter and Beryl Hughes-Holland were a howling success as werewolf and friend.
Thameside Junior School held at disco in 1979, with many pupils dressed as gangsters and molls from the 1920s. Andrew Parry, 10, seen with Sarah Jones, also 10, took the role of notorious Chicago gangster Al Capone.
