Oxfordshire County Council today denied it broke election law by linking sitting councillors’ profiles to the candidates page on its website but not providing similar information about non-sitting candidates.
Council spokesman Paul Smith said: “All councils always have details relating to their sitting councillors on their website. Last Friday one of our web people put a link from our candidates page to the list of sitting councillors.
“Somebody expressed concern so we broke the link. That was on Wednesday.
“No councillors were involved and no elections rules have been broken.”
Voters hit the ballot box yesterday.
The count is due to start at the White Horse Leisure Centre in Abingdon at 10am.
There will be regular updates on this website as the results are announced.
