Police are continuing their search for a man they would like to speak to in connection with a murder in Oxford.

Devon McPherson, 42, was stabbed on Monday 18 May at about 11am. He staggered into the Regal where police officers and paramedics attempted to save his life but he was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Det Chief Insp Mick Saunders, leading the murder investigation, said: “We are actively pursuing and following up every line of enquiry to bring whoever is responsible to justice.

“Acting on information received from Crimestoppers, armed officers conducted a search in the Donnington Bridge area of Oxford between 8pm and 10pm on the evening of Wednesday June 3, for the man whose image was released to media earlier this week in connection with this murder.

“Following that appeal earlier this week, we have received calls, both directly and via Crimestoppers, that have suggested the man was previously in Luton, an Oxford City centre shop and in London.

“Each call has to be taken seriously and in this case information was received from Crimestoppers to suggest that our suspect was living rough along the river bank near Donnington Bridge.

"As we are searching for a man regarding a violent murder involving a weapon we need to take certain safeguards and make sure we leave no stone unturned. A team of six officers, together with armed support, carried out a search which revealed no evidence to support the proposition that the man had been in the area.

“From time to time information is received that we need to get to the bottom of. Information is assessed against known facts and where appropriate every effort must be taken to confirm whether the information is accurate or not. This may, on occasion, cause some disruption to local life, but this will be kept to the minimum necessary.

“Although nobody was located this time, we continue to appeal for anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact police immediately.

“I would like to thank all those who have responded so far and remind people that the man we would like to speak to is black, of medium build, with dark, cropped hair and speaks with a heavy Jamaican accent.”
