Sir – The Government recently announced a £140m scheme for all councils to offer free swimming to the over 60s and under 16s.
So far of the six Oxfordshire councils, only Oxford City Council have begun to offer this healthy benefit to an ageing population. Where are the rest?
Meanwhile this same Government continues to bilk pensioners of their ‘deferred pay’ in the autumn of their lives by using the £46bn surplus in the National Insurance fund for other purposes.
When are pensioners going to find their collective voices and pressure this Government to implement the 2001 EU summit directive requiring all EU Governments to raise the State pension to 40 per cent of the median wage by 2007?
No, it isn’t a misprint, 2007!
