CLIMBING ladders and lifting weights were just some of the physical activities people interested in becoming firefighters took part in during a ‘have-a-go’ session.
About 15 people attended the two-hour event at Wantage Fire Station, in Ormond Road, to find out about life as a firefighter with Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The event included talks on the role of firefighters in the community.
The group then took part in selection tests, used ladders and lifted weights to demonstrate physical strength and stamina.
Fire station manager Simon Belcher said: “We’re hopeful that we will get some new recruits from the evening.
“But we still need more people interested in becoming a firefighter to come forward.”
The service’s recruitment drive continues on Saturday morning with an open day for potential retained firefighters at Faringdon Fire Station, in Park Road.
