THE world’s fastest long-distance clown is all shook up after potentially setting a record for the fastest marathon dressed as Elvis Presley.
Paul Fernandez, from Radley, near Abingdon, who last month was officially recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as holding the fastest time for running a marathon dressed as a clown, completed Sunday’s Edinburgh Marathon dressed as ‘The King’ in well under three hours to set a new unofficial record. The 35-year-old Abingdon Amblers runner, who teaches at Radley College, finished the 26.2-mile course in two hours, 49 minutes and 56 seconds, which beats the previous record of two hours, 52 minutes and 55 seconds.
Mr Fernandez, who has yet to have the Elvis record ratified by the Guinness Book of Records, said: “The two costumes were very similar to run in, but Sunday was much hotter than Gloucester in January. Having the open front to the costume was certainly a bonus in the heat.
“I am sure that I will do some more marathons dressed up at some stage. Maybe as Santa Claus."
