A VOLUNTEER centre is set to help more people as it expands its service to Chipping Norton.
A grant from Oxfordshire County Council means that Witney-based Volunteer Link Up will now be able to serve Chipping Norton and surrounding villages.
It has opened a new office at the Highlands Day Centre, in Burford Road.
Established in 1983, the organisation recruits volunteers for more than 90 local groups, as well as for its own projects, which include community transport and befriending.
In the past year, more than 600 people have been helped by the centre.
Manager Pat Chirgwin said: “We’re delighted to have received additional funding to extend our services.
“Our research has shown that there are potential volunteers willing to provide their time, but with no idea how to offer their services.
“There are also a number of charitable organisations who are desperate to recruit volunteers.”
Chipping Norton’s mayor Martin Jarratt said: “I’m very pleased to see the establishment of a new volunteer centre in Chipping Norton, following the loss of Volunteer Connection.”
Volunteer Link Up had launched a recruitment drive during Volunteers Week, which ends on Sunday.
Today, the centre will have a stand at Chipping Norton Market.
