A campaign flyer from Roy Darke and Andrew Lomas, Labour candidates for Oxford’s Headington and Marston ward, says Oxfordshire County Council got a grant from the Government for more work on children’s play areas, but chose to spend every penny outside Oxford.
It’s a shame they don’t read the Oxford Mail which has printed several stories about how the county council is spending this grant. For example, on May 7, the Mail reported how £47,000 from the scheme has gone to help the city council improve the Bernwood Road play area in Barton.
For the record, an additional figure of roughly £800,000 has been earmarked as a grant to the city council to develop a staffed adventure play site in Barton.
This is publicly available information. The city council web-site also reported these stories.
At a time when voters are sick of the self-seeking, mucky behaviour of national politicians, aspiring council members really need to look different, act honestly and display some trustworthiness. Or at least read their local paper.
Did Mr Darke and Mr Lomas fail to realise the importance of checking their facts?
Can anybody who knows them please direct them to the city council website and pop a copy of the Oxford Mail through their letterbox?
Maybe then we’ll get a reply.
