Sir – Those elected to Oxfordshire County Council on June 4 will be making some crucial decisions which will affect Oxfordshire’s environment for years.
Oxford Friends of the Earth have therefore suggested the following five questions to put to candidates of all parties.
1: Do you oppose the incineration of Oxfordshire’s waste?
2: Do you support the council committing to an 80 per cent reduction of Oxfordshire’s carbon emissions by 2050?
3: Would you require the bus companies to work together with the council in a Quality Partnership Scheme to improve services?
4: Do you support the introduction of an electric shuttle bus system for the centre of Oxford?
5: Would you support a policy of all county institutions buying food only from sustainable sources?
A flyer including these questions in a handy format, as well as our own position on the issues they address, can be found on our website www.oxfoe.co.uk We would encourage your readers to use these questions to challenge any prospective councillors when they come seeking their support, and to use the responses they get to help decide how to cast their vote in the best way for the environment of our county.
