DANCE TO THE MUSIC Glyn Frewer (Wychwood, £6.99)

This is Oxford-born poet Glyn Frewer’s second book of poems, but not his second book, as he has written a dozen stories for children. He also contributes regularly to magazines such as The Countryman.

He believes that poetry and music have such a close relationship that they can regarded as indistinguishable, as both these art forms exist to move us, to resonate, remain in the mind to be remembered and recalled or outwardly expressed.

Much of this collection is taken up with Raison d’Etre, a thought provoking fugue that introduces themes that are taken up and developed by interweaving the parts. This is followed by 17 delightful poems, that cover subjects as diverse as Christmas Eve, Autumn Symphony, Rooks and Across the Purple Desert.

Some are moving, some make pertinent observations about nature and the changing seasons, and some are poignant, but all are eminently readable.
