MORE than 200 people made use of the fine weather to take a plunge in Abingdon’s outdoor pool on its first day of opening for the summer season.

Dozens of children and families frolicked in the sunshine on Saturday and enjoyed the 40-metre heated pool in Abbey Meadows as poolside temperatures reached 21C. Operations manager Neil Morris, right, said: “It was a very good start to the new season and it’s good to get the pool open again.

“We have been quite rushed off our feet today.”

The pool was forced to close for a year in 2005 due to funding problems but now has guaranteed funding until 2011.

It will remain open for the summer season until September 6.
