Five men and a teenage boy were tonight being questioned by detectives over an attempt to shoot a man at his home in Oxford.

Police carried out six raids at homes across the city today, and arrested all six on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

It followed the attempted killing of a man in Brampton Road, Barton, last month.

A 29-year-old was arrested in Crotch Crescent, Marston, a 19-year-old was arrested in Ridgeway Road, Risinghurst, a 23-year-old was arrested in Chillingworth Crescent, Wood Farm, a 23-year-old and an 18-year-old were arrested at separate addresses in Leiden Road, Wood Farm, and a 15-year-old boy was arrested in Pauling Road, Wood Farm.

At about 10.40pm on April 21, two men knocked on the door of the house in Brampton Road.

When a 59-year-old man came to the door, they asked him to confirm his name and pulled out a gun, but when the man saw the weapon he closed the door. A shot was fired but it missed him and the bullet hit the wall.

His name has not been released by police.

Det Ch Insp Colin Seaton said following the arrests: “Today’s warrants were carried out following the ongoing investigation into the shooting in Barton in April.

“It is now a month on from the incident and our investigation is still very active.

“We are treating this as a targeted incident, and offences involving firearms in the county are rare.

“As you would expect, a robust and determined investigation will always follow incidents of this serious nature .

“I would like to reassure the community of Oxford that we are doing everything we can to bring the people responsible for this incident to justice.”
