A Bicester resident has called on the county council to install 20mph signs — nine years after his estate was built.
John Broad said Bicester Fields Farm Estate, near Langford Village, was designed for motorists to drive at a maximum speed of 20mph, known as a home zone.
But it was never designated as a home zone — an area where pedestrians have priority — despite repeated requests from the Langford Village Community Association, and residents never got their requested 20mph signs.
But the Government has since called for more residential areas to become 20mph zones.
And last month, Oxfordshire County Council agreed that speed limits across most of Oxford would be reduced to 20mph by August.
John Broad, former chairman of the community matters committee of the association, said: “This is the time, with the Government suggesting 20mph limits in residential areas, that the council and its highways authority can complete the signed off ‘design brief’.
“No more silly excuses – just get on with it.”
A county council spokesman said: “We want to evaluate the Oxford scheme first before we consider rolling it out in other areas of Oxfordshire.”
