A costume designer for stage and film is set to premiere her collection at Banbury Museum until June 14 before taking it on a national tour.

Kate Plumtree’s work includes costumes for West End musicals such as Wicked and The Lion King, films such as Saving Private Ryan, and productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company, English National Opera and Welsh National Opera.

Ms Plumtree said: “The spacious gallery at Banbury has become an explosion of colour, pattern and texture. Costumes are everywhere – standing, sitting, even flying – all beautifully and imaginatively lit to create a truly theatrical spectacle.”

Cherwell District Council’s strategic director for environment and community, Ian Davies, said: “This is a real coup for Banbury — the first chance to see some of these fantastic costumes that are inspired by the colours, shapes and characteristics of British birds and mammals.”
