With worsening road manners in Oxford between pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, and the city’s first recorded guilty court verdict of a cyclist knocking a pedestrian over at a crossing, I propose removing all cycle lanes, bus lanes, pedestrian crossings, traffic lights and traffic calming chicanes.
We could then follow natural law and legislate that pedestrians have right of way on all thoroughfares (except motorways and railways), followed by horse riders, cyclists and motorists.
In the new shared environment, if a collision occurs, the horse rider, cyclist or motorist should automatically lose the right to use that mode of transport for three years. This should instil fear of the consequences to jobs, salaries and social lives.
It works in other countries where there are no road markings so, eventually, it should here.
