Sir – Since January we have suffered a series of “lost” mail that has been sent to us. The missing mail mainly had one thing in common in that they were birthday cards, three with vouchers or cash in them for my children. At the beginning of last week two cards were posted first class together in London. Both had money in for my son’s birthday. Only one arrived.
The latest missing item was my bank replacement debit card that I confirmed with my bank this morning was sent out on April 10. It never arrived.
We have lived at our current address for 25 years and up until the last few months the service by Royal Mail has been exceptionally reliable. We have never had so many “disappeared” items in all that time.
I spoke to the local post office about the matter and understand that I am not the only person who has had this problem recently.
I understand that the Oxford sorting office is closing and moving to Swindon, many employees have left and it now is being staffed mainly by temporary workers.
I would be interested to know if what I have experienced is a more widespread problem?
Mark Noble, Oxford
