Sir – There are those who look forward to retirement with pleasure and excitement.
However, there are also those of us who view retirement with misgivings: what is there to do all day?
What is there to do? I visited my local sports and community centre, and I am amazed by the variety, much of which is free or very cheap. For example: Water Workout on Mondays, Pilates and Yoga on Tuesdays, Gym on Wednesdays, local walks on Thursdays, and Scrabble on Fridays — not to mention free swimming for Seniors several times a week. I am still working a bit, and I find it hard to fit all this in . . . it is also a tremendous pleasure to meet people and to make new friends. I would like to thank the council for transforming my dread of boredom to anticipation of a healthy and pleasant retirement.
