n February the Oxford Mail reported that 15 Conservative county councillors, following their leader, Keith Mitchell were staying quiet over hotel expenses.
The story went on to explain that the 15 refused to reveal if they stayed in Oxford hotels, as they were advised they could, to beat the snowy weather, when they needed to attend a budget meeting.
Among them, Ian Hudspeth asked whether such a revelation would be an issue of interest to the electorate of Oxfordshire.
A statement by husband and wife councillors, Michael and Marilyn Badcock read: “How I decided to ensure I attended (the) meeting is my decision”.
In response, comments were made by members of the public to the effect that these councillors ought to have more respect for the electorate.
Given what is happening nationally and the stance of their own leader, David Cameron, and the fact that they are representatives in his own backyard, would these councillors now like to reconsider their position?
As a taxpayer I would like to be reassured that they have nothing to hide.
