WITNEY MP David Cameron is to hold an open meeting in the town to allow the public to grill him on the MPs’ expenses saga.

The Conservative Party leader yesterday confirmed he would appear at the Corn Exchange in the Market Square on Friday at noon.

Mr Cameron’s agent Barry Norton said the Opposition leader would talk to the public about the issue and take questions from the floor.

He said Mr Cameron was taking the lead after telling his MPs to go back to their constituencies and speak to the public about their own expenses.

Mr Cameron previously said he would return £680 claimed for repairs to his constituency property in the county. His claim had included the cost of clearing wisteria and vines from a chimney and replacing outside lights and resealing his conservatory roof.

Speaking to delegates of the Conservative European Election Campaign in Lancashire yesterday afternoon, Mr Cameron also called on the public to start petitioning for a General Election.
