A MIX-UP saw political pamphlets – thought to include publications by the British National Party and UKIP – inserted into the city council’s quarterly publication and posted to residents yesterday.
Your Oxford is delivered to households across the city four times a year.
Resident Adrian Greenwood contacted the Oxford Mail after receiving the latest edition along with BNP and UKIP flyers, ahead of European and county council elections next month.
He said: “I thought it was slightly odd.”
Oxford City Council issued a statement saying: “It has been brought to our attention that electoral leaflets have been inserted into some of the summer issues of Your Oxford being delivered under contract by Royal Mail. Oxford City Council has not authorised any electoral leaflets to be enclosed with Your Oxford.
“The council does not endorse or support any political party or candidate in the forthcoming county council and European Parliament elections.
“The leaflets were added to Your Oxford by Royal Mail delivery staff without our knowledge or authorisation immediately before posting.
“As soon as we became aware of the issue we instructed them to stop the practice and sought assurances from Royal Mail that their staff will not continue this as they deliver Your Oxford across the rest of the city.”
