A man has died after suffering stab wounds to his neck in Cowley Road, Oxford, today.

Detectives have launched an investigation into the “unexplained” death of the man this morning.

At about 11.50am, the man, who has not yet been identified, staggered into the reception area of The Regal in Magdalen Road with stab wounds to his neck.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where he was pronounced dead, said Thames Valley Police spokesman Victoria Brandon.

Det Chief Insp Mick Saunders, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are still in the very early stages of the investigation and are keeping an open mind as to how, where and when the man sustained his injuries.

“Magdalen Road has been cordoned off and police are conducting inquiries in the Cowley Road area.

“I appeal to anyone who was in the area this morning and saw a black man who appeared to be injured to contact police immediately.

“We need to find out exactly how this man was injured and where. If you have any information, however insignificant you think it might be, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Oxford CID on 08458 505505.
