A TOAST to our new Queen.
This was the scene in the mayor’s parlour at Oxford Town Hall on Saturday, February 9, 1952, the day Princess Elizabeth was proclaimed Queen Elizabeth II at a ceremony held at Carfax.
The mayor, Alderman William Osborn King, is seen drinking Her Majesty’s health.
The others are, from left, Jack Allaway, the Sheriff and landlord of the University and City Arms in Magdalen Road, Harry Plowman, the town clerk, Leslie Boddy, Town Hall keeper and macebearer, and Mr Diplock, the city recorder.
