MYSTERY still surrounds the discovery of an injured naked man near the River Thames.
Police are appealing for witnesses after they were called to the junction of Botley Road and Bridge Street, on Osney Island, in Oxford, at 7.45am today.
They found a naked man who had suffered a minor wound to his forehead.
A search of the area led to blood being found on the street near Riverside Hotel, on Botley Road. Police cordoned off an alleyway between Abbey Road and the River Thames for about two hours, but have not found his clothes or any weapon.
The 40-year-old man, from Brighton, remained in hospital tonight recovering from minor injuries.
PC Henry Gillingham said officers did not yet know what happened, but believed the man may have been the victim of an assault.
He added: “This is an unusual incident but somebody must have seen something which could be helpful for our investigation.
“I appeal to anyone who saw this man in the area of Botley Road and the riverbank in the early hours of the morning to contact me.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
