I write in disbelief, having twice heard people ring into a local radio station stating that the so-called ‘mega-probation centre’ in Mill Street, Oxford is a good idea, because it will keep undesirable characters away from tourists and shoppers. By making those on probation come in from Banbury (30 miles away), Abingdon and Cowley, they will inevitably arrive early in the city – and will soon realise that Mill Street is not a centre of entertainment.
Mill Street is less than 10 minutes’ walk from Carfax, so the majority of offenders will hang around the city centre and then make a dash for Mill Street for their appointment.
It is time that all people in Oxford city woke up, and realised how big an impact this will have.
