AN 18th century fireplace was discovered while repairs were being carried out at Kidlington Youth Centre in 1959. The centre was in a farmhouse which was once part of Oxford Zoo. Brian Pirie, 19, an apprentice bricklayer, of Waverley Avenue, Kidlington, seen with part of the fireplace in the first picture, reconstructed it in his spare time.
Kidlington Methodist Youth Club’s quiz team enjoyed success when they represented Mid-Oxfordshire in the county youth service quiz finals in 1963. From left to right in the second picture are Raymond Baldwin, John Jenkins, Elizabeth Clark, Beryl Poole and Terry Dee.
The third picture shows competitors in the annual barrel race through the village in 1963. Old Southfieldians Rugby Club triumphed for the second year running.
