When it comes to easy-to-drink, smooth, rich ripe wines there is no better choice than Australian shiraz. Here you will find none of the comparatively rough edges of a Rhône style from France — Aussie wines have much more ripeness and depth which makes them very accessible and a great match with hearty casseroles and spicy foods including Indian dishes.

Dry River 2008, South Eastern Australia: With smoky rich fruit on the nose and spicy red berry fruit on the palate, this is a classic example of Australian Shiraz that goes well with earthy spicy foods in particular.
Jip Jip Rocks 2007, Limestone Coast: The Jip Jip Rocks are a striking outcrop of 350- million-year-old pink-red granite in the heart of the Limestone Coast which is sacred in traditional Aboriginal beliefs. The wine itself has delicious flavours of eucalyptus, spice and ripe berry fruit.
Redbank Fighting Flat 2006, King Valley: The Fighting Flat is made from grapes selected from premium, high-altitude vineyards in the King Valley. The cool ripening process has produced an elegant style of shiraz which has deep vibrant fruit and a subtle long finish — delicious.
Palandri Vita Novus 2004, Margaret River: Western Australia produces complex wines due to the coolness of the climate and the coastal influences on the vineyards. This wonderful wine has deep complex flavours of white pepper, spice and touches of leather and has a very smooth, rich texture.
