A BAN on more roadworks should be called in Headington.
Pity the poor residents in London Road, for whom life has become unbearable.
The £1.3m improvement scheme has now over-run by two months and workers are slaving away into the early hours to get it finished.
One neighbour claimed she could feel the vibrations as drills hammered away through the night.
Then there are the people who use the road every day – for them traffic jams have become a part of the daily journey.
Avoiding London Road has been etched firmly into everyone’s travel plans.
But the contractors are in a lose, lose situation.
Work into the night and cheese off local residents, or stretch out the work even longer and run the gauntlet of motorists.
The county council says the delay has been caused by gas, water and electricity companies and problems with underground work.
Hopefully, when it is completed, the improvements – which include a new bus lane – will be worth it.
Let’s hope the work is polished off as quickly as possible and there are no further delays.
