CROWDS craned their necks skywards to catch a glimpse of some of the country’s most famous flying machines.
Organisers of the 10th Abingdon Air and Country Show said this weekend’s event was among the best yet.
The show, which is held at Dalton Barracks, combined air displays with fly-overs from modern and vintage aeroplanes, and arena events such as dog agility displays and renditions of 1940s music.
Last year the event raised more than £5,000 for the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, which is funded completely by donations.
Colin Smith, who has been on the air show organising committee for three years, said ticket sales for this year’s event were double what had been expected.
He said: “It was definitely very well attended. One of the main attractions was an RAF C-17 Globemaster III from 99 Squadron. But we had everything which makes the air show a success every year.”
Other attractions included a vintage and classic car show, a display by the Tigers Parachute Team, a bouncy castle, and music from Fiona Harrison, a singer who performs in a 1940s ATS uniform.
Ryan Rutlidge, from Southampton, was at the show with his sons Dylan, one, and Isaac, two.
He said: “They both thoroughly enjoyed it. We particularly liked the Chinook display and the boys enjoyed seeing all the fire engines.
“We tend to come to the show once every couple of years, but this was the first time we had brought the boys.”
