Just what has poor Cuba done to reap the wrath of Paul Miller, (Oxford Mail letters).

Why does he repeat the myths in his hatchet job, so commonly used by enemies of Cuba, unless of course he was describing Guantanamo Bay, and the US run prison camp.

While Cuba may not be a beacon of utopia, infant mortality is better on that island than its huge neighbour. You also have a longer life span in Cuba than the USA, (World health Organisation figures, not mine).

Cuba does not export guns or bombs, but often doctors and nurses as during the Pakistan earthquake.

It is patently obvious the writer has never visited Cuba. If he had, he is peddling untruths.

In a comparison of third world countries, Cuba comes way on top, and compares well with rich western countries.

There are 50 million Americans who have no health cover, who would love free access to a good health care system like the Cubans have.

Unlike our corrupt system, which sees pensioners die in winter and millions of children live in poverty, the Cuban economy grew this year.

If the world downturn affects Cuba, you can be absolutely certain ordinary Cuban workers will not pay the price through redundandies, unlike our economy.

Yes, Cuba has issues, but there, plainly, is no financial crisis in Cuba – and you won’t find too many rich bankers skulking around.

People in this country deserve decent local medical cover, good schools, job opportunities and a liveable guaranteed pension, when they’ve fought and worked decades of their lives. Unfortunately, most of the latter are available in Cuba, not in this utopian society.
