Max Mosley is hopeful "the culture change" at McLaren will result in a more positive relationship between the team and the FIA.
Team principal Martin Whitmarsh's demonstration of the fact McLaren have turned over a new leaf proved a clearly persuasive argument in Wednesday's World Motor Sport Council hearing in Paris.
McLaren were handed a suspended three-race ban after the team admitted five charges of being in breach of the International Sporting Code.
"Martin made a very good impression," remarked Mosley following the hearing. "He is absolutely straightforward and wants to work with us. We're all trying to do the same thing, which is to make the championship successful and hope the best team wins."
He added: "I think Martin fully understands that, and the World Council reacted accordingly."
Lewis Hamilton may have apologised for lying to the stewards at the Australian Grand Prix, and Dave Ryan was sacked as sporting director as it was he who instigated the whole sorry affair, but it was Whimarsh's predecessor Ron Dennis' exit that appears to have really persuaded the FIA a definitive sea-change has been taking place.
Appreciating McLaren's new philosophy and approach, Mosley added: "They (McLaren) have demonstrated there is a complete culture change, that it's all different to what it was.
"In those circumstances it looks better to put the whole thing behind us, so unless there is something similar in the future, that is the end of the matter."
