ORGANISERS of Barton’s fourth annual community celebration have appealed for volunteers.
This year’s Barton Bash will be held at Barton Neighbourhood Centre in Underhill Circus on Saturday, June 13.
The celebration was launched four years ago to replace the estate’s annual carnival – and last year about 1,000 people flocked to the family event.
Sue Holden, secretary of Barton Community Association, said volunteers were needed to deal with the same amount of visitors expected this year.
She said: “We are all really looking forward to this year’s event.
“We will need somebody to help with catering and we need people who are prepared to man the inflatables and do basic, but really important things, like selling raffle tickets. Those are the main areas we are looking for volunteers, but anyone who can offer any help at all is more than welcome to contact me.”
The Bash, which costs around £2,000 to put on, starts at midday and goes on until 5pm.
However, volunteers would ideally need to be available between 10am and 5.30pm.
The day will see families enjoying traditional Barton Bash events, such as a five-a-side football tournament, bouncy castles, food stalls and arts activities.
Performers from the Messy Jam Dance Troupe and the Strawberry Fayre Majorettes will return, following acclaimed performances at previous events.
There will also be sets from local music acts, including vocalist Tom Lygo, from Harolde Close.
Mr Lygo – also known as MC Dash – combines urban music with lyrics about love, God and growing up on the estate.
Mrs Holden said there were still slots available for other people hoping to perform.
She said: “If people want to come along and do something on the day then they are also welcome to give me a call.
“The bash is a great family and community day and has been very popular every year.
“We really hope this year will prove as big a hit.”
