A SHOPKEEPER who was stabbed 10 times is recovering in hospital after a knife-point robbery at an Oxford supermarket.
Hassan Jamil, 29, suffered multiple injuries to his hands as he tried to defend himself from the masked robber, at the Premier Supermarket, in Pegasus Road, Blackbird Leys.
The robber, who had covered his face with a scarf and was wearing a woolly hat, burst into the shop brandishing a knife just as it was about to close at 11pm on Monday.
He threatened a 28-year-old female cashier, who fled into a storeroom. However, the robber then turned on Mr Jamil and hacked at his hands before pulling the till off the counter.
The robber grabbed £60 in cash, then ran out of the shop.
Mr Jamil was still in hospital last night after being treated for his injuries.
Staff at she shop spent two hours yesterday mopping up the blood before they could open.
Mr Jamil’s brother Javid, 31, who manages the shop, said: “The robber came in and asked for money from the till.
“My brother Hassan came out and the man threatened him.
“Then he attacked him with the knife and stabbed him about 10 times in the hands.
“My brother was trying to defend himself and there was blood everywhere.
“The robber grabbed the till and knocked it to the ground, so it broke into pieces. Then he took the money and went.
“This isn’t good. My wife doesn’t want to work here any more and another man working last night has not been answering my calls since.”
The robber was white and aged about around 20, thin, and between 5ft 5in and 5ft 7in tall.
He had a blue scarf and was wearing a stripy jumper, grey tracksuit bottoms, white trainers and a woolly hat.
Det Con Craig Burchall said: “The offender made off with about £60 from the till.
“I would ask anyone who was in Blackbird Leys last night and saw a man matching this description to contact me immediately.”
Anyone with information should call Dc Burchall on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
