A woman has been fined for failing to remove general household waste from outside her home.

Nadia Vollenhoven, 29, was served with an enforcement notice on September 3 last year, ordering her to remove the mess from outside her property in Buckler Road, Sunnymead, within a week.

Vollenhoven, now of Hawksmoor Road, Cutteslowe, failed to comply with the notice and the mess was cleared by council officers on October 21.

The case was heard at Oxford Magistrates Court on Friday in Vollenhoven’s absence.

She was found to have breached an abatement notice under Section 80 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Vollenhoven was fined £100 and ordered to pay Oxford City Council £200 costs.

She was also ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge.

City councillor John Tanner, board member for a cleaner, greener Oxford, said: “If Oxford residents make a rubbish heap of their gardens we will take action and use enforcement notices if necessary. Most people keep their yards and gardens neat and tidy and so should everyone."
