Two men are in custody after a hammer attack in a pub.
A man in his 60s was smashed over the head with a claw hammer in The Red Lion pub, in Banbury Road, Kidlington, at about 5.50pm yesterday.
Police and paramedics arrived and the man was taken to hospital with head injuries. He was said to be in a stable condition.
Two men, aged 28 and 34, were arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon.
Det Insp Steve Duffy said: “I appeal to anyone who was in the Red Lion who hasn’t spoken to us already to contact police immediately.
“At this stage it is still unclear if the attack was unprovoked, so I urge anyone with information that could assist our enquiries to get in touch.”
Anyone with information should call police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
