A rock’n’roll band composed of servicemen based at RAF Benson is on tour raising funds for charity Help for Heroes, which helps forces’ personnel wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The band, 706 Union Avenue, comprises lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Corporal Pat Winn, Sergeant Yan Townsend on bass guitar, Corporal Jez Peake on lead guitar, and drummer Corporal Ian Harding.
On Saturday, the group played a gig at the Temple Bar, in Temple Street, East Oxford, pictured.
Sgt Townsend, 36, said: “The gig was one of the best we’ve done — the atmosphere was amazing and the loose change we collected on the night has brought the fundraising up to £800.”
The group hopes to raise £1,000, and its next gig is at the Chester Arms, in Chester Street, at 8pm a week on Saturday.
The covers band was formed in May 1998, and, in 2000, the group was featured on Radio 2 DJ Johnny Walker’s drivetime show.
