MORE than once in your coverage this week of Oxford United’s battle to get into the play-offs you have referred to fans “getting their prayer mats out”.

Given that this appears to be an Islamic-inspired metaphor, I’m surprised you were prepared to be so culturally specific.

Wouldn’t it have been more ‘PC’ to come up with something neutral like “keeping their fingers crossed”?

Or would that have been showing favouritism towards people who are superstitious?
